At Cathedral Cove Kayaks we are committed to protecting the stunning natural environment of Hahei and the Te Whanganui-o-Hei Marine Reserve. Through eco-friendly practices, community involvement, and a passion for sustainability, we aim to provide exceptional kayak tours that help preserve this beautiful region for future generations.
Our Sustainable Practices
As a kayak company, our tours are powered by people—not engines—allowing guests to explore the coastline with minimal environmental impact. We continue this low-impact approach throughout our daily operations by reducing waste and supporting local suppliers.
During our tours we serve hot drinks with locally produced Otis oat milk and coffee from Riley Coffee Roasters. We encourage guests to bring reusable water bottles or purchase a reusable bottle from our shop to help reduce single-use plastics, and we ensure items such as Tetra Pak cartons are properly recycled.
By choosing local products wherever possible, we’re reducing transport emissions while supporting New Zealand businesses and our local economy.
Community and Conservation
Protecting this coastline takes a community effort.
We proudly support local organisations working to restore and protect the Te Whanganui-o-Hei Marine Reserve and the Hahei Reserves. During the booking process, guests can choose to donate to these local conservation initiatives or contribute to native tree planting, helping restore local ecosystems and enhance biodiversity.
As part of Destination Hauraki’s GOOD FOR YOUR SOUL campaign, we’ve proudly contributed native trees to support habitat restoration, and our team regularly takes part in beach clean-ups and other environmental projects.
Together with our guests, we’re helping care for the place that makes every paddle so memorable.
