Our Story
Cathedral Cove Kayaks have been offering guided sea kayak tours since 1999. Our tours are designed to give people the opportunity to safely experience sea kayaking and to discover the natural beauty and rich history of our coastal environment. Operating all year round, we cater for people of all ages, nationalities and abilities. With qualified tour guides we offer a safe and personal experience that entertains and educates our clients every time.
We are endorsed by Tourism New Zealand’s Qualmark programme, we have the Outdoors Mark safety accreditation and we are on the Approved Activity Operator register with Worksafe New Zealand. We have long standing concessions with Thames Coromandel District Council and the Department of Conservation concession to operate from Hahei Beach and Cathedral Cove.
Our vision has always been about delivering safe, sustainable, high quality experiences that sit comfortably on the list of New Zealand’s best activities. We understand and respect our environment and we have embraced the opportunity to share and preserve it. We can have our busiest day of the year and as the sun sets that evening there will be no sign that we were ever there. We aim to be the epitome of low impact and sustainable tourism.
Since 1999 we have gained a reputation as a safe and professional company that a delivers a high quality personal experience to every one of our clients.
Our tours include detailed commentary sharing the conservation and preservation values that we have.
We aim to educate our clients on the positive impact of Marine Reserves and the need for designated conservation areas to protect our native flora and fauna. We give people the opportunity to directly interact with the ocean and the huge variety of creatures and species that call it home. Our guests can come face to face with dolphins, seals, whales, stingrays, fish, penguins and much more.
We believe that interacting with the ocean is healthy. The Destination Coromandel slogan claims that The Coromandel is ‘Good for your Soul’ and we agree. We feel truely privileged to connect our visitors with the ocean and all it has to offer.
