Our Story
Founded in 1999, Cathedral Cove Kayaks has been sharing the spectacular coastline of Hahei and Cathedral Cove with visitors from around the world for decades.
What began as a small local sea kayaking business has grown into one of New Zealand’s leading kayaking experiences. While we’ve grown over the years, our commitment has remained the same—to provide safe, memorable adventures while protecting the incredible marine environment we call home.
Today, we’re proud to be the only sea kayaking company licensed to land at Cathedral Cove. Our small-group tours are led by passionate local guides who love sharing the area’s wildlife, history and natural beauty, giving every guest a unique perspective of this remarkable coastline.

Safety
Your safety is our top priority. From the moment you arrive, our experienced local guides are committed to providing a safe, professional and enjoyable sea kayaking experience.
We use high-quality equipment, follow independently audited safety systems, and are an approved Adventure Activity Operator with WorkSafe New Zealand. We also hold a Qualworx Adventure Activity Safety Audit Certificate, so you can relax knowing you’re in safe and experienced hands.

Beyond safety, your overall experience is our priority. Qualmark is New Zealand’s official quality assurance programme for tourism businesses and is recognised by Tourism New Zealand. Our Gold accreditation recognises us as one of New Zealand’s top-rated tourism operators, with a commitment to high-quality experiences, sustainability and exceptional service.
Department of Conservation (DOC) Concession Holder
As a DOC concession holder, we are authorised to operate our sea kayaking activities in public conservation areas. Our concession reflects our commitment to responsible tourism and protecting the natural environment, while helping visitors experience some of New Zealand’s most special places.
